Tory Lanez was given a 10-year prison term for shooting Megan Thee Stallion

Rapper Tory Lanez of Canada received a 10-year term for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, another musician.

Tory Lanez was given a 10-year prison term for shooting Megan Thee Stallion

Following a party in 2020, Lanez and Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion got into a fight, and Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion in the feet.

In December, he was convicted guilty of three offenses involving firearms, and he has been imprisoned ever since.

Megan Thee Stallion need surgery to have bullet pieces removed from her foot as a result of the incident.

After the verdict, the LA District Attorney claimed that the fact that she is well-known has contributed to raising awareness of the problem of violence against women.

According to prosecutor George Gascón, "the fact that she is a successful entertainer has brought an important spotlight on the issue of violence against women."

After leaving Kylie Jenner, a reality star, for a pool party, the shooting happened on the way home.

The judge had been sought by the prosecution to impose a 13-year prison term. For shooting a "vulnerable victim" on a peaceful residential street and for conducting "a campaign to humiliate and re-traumatize her" after the incident, they claimed Lanez deserved a substantial term.

After the sentencing hearing, Tanishia Wright, the director of victim services at the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, said to reporters: "Violence against Black Women and Girls is a long-standing National Epidemic that has long been overlooked and under-reported."

She stated, "Most often than not, women of color don't come forward to claim victimization out of a concern of not being believed.

In the last seven years, Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, has had seven US top 10 albums.

Last December, he was found guilty of three felonies: assault with a semi-automatic weapon; possession of a loaded, unlicensed firearm in a motor vehicle; and grossly negligent discharge of a firearm. Since being declared guilty, the 31-year-old has been detained.

His attorneys claimed that he should receive probation as well as time in a drug treatment facility. If Lanez will now be deported to Canada is unknown.

Jose Baez, the man's attorney, stated that because of "significant issues" with the trial, his client intends to appeal the verdict.

He said outside of court on Tuesday that there was no DNA evidence linking Lanez to the shooting, and he added that the rapper's DNA was not discovered on the gun used.

Baez continued by saying that in his opinion, Lanez wasn't given a fair trial.

Megan, a triple Grammy winner, said she will "never be the same" following the incident in a victim impact statement read in court on Monday.

According to US media, the statement read, "I have not known a single day of peace since I was viciously shot by the defendant."

"I'm recovering and getting better slowly but surely, but I'll never be the same."

On Monday, other witnesses included Lanez's father, who spoke movingly about the impact on his son of losing his mother when he was 11 years old, and a prison chaplain, who claimed that Lanez had been in charge of leading daily prayer sessions.

According to the judge, Lanez's family and friends wrote him more than 70 letters of support, and musician Iggy Azalea called for a sentence that would be "transformative, not life-destroying".

In the wee hours of July 12, 2020, the two left Jenner's home in an SUV with his bodyguard and her friend and aide Kelsey Harris.

Megan, real name Megan Pete, said in court that she and Lanez got into a fight over a prior sexual encounter. The two insulted one other's professional accomplishments as the argument heated up.

According to her, Lanez began firing at the ground and yelling at her to "dance" when she insisted on being allowed out of the car.

After learning of the relationship, Ms. Harris may have shot her buddy out of jealousy and a "crush" on Lanez, according to the defense team for the man who has maintained his innocence.

Ms. Harris disagreed. She later changed her mind on the witness stand and admitted she did not observe Lanez kill Megan, contradicting her claims that he was the shooter.
