According to the DCE, the minimum price per kilo set by the tree crops board to be used to purchase this year's cashew is Gh¢8.50 which all cashew trading companies are supposed to abide by that than buying from the farmers as low as the minimum price set.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Tain District of the Bono Region Honourable Dr Lucy Acheampong has issued an instruction to some cashew-buying companies who are buying cashew from some farmers below the minimum price index for the 2023 farming season.

According to the DCE, the minimum price per kilo set by the tree crops board to be used to purchase this year's cashew is Gh¢8.50 which all cashew trading companies are supposed to abide by that than buying from the farmers as low as the minimum price set.

The DCE upon hearing that some cashew buyers are buying the produce from the farmers below the minimum price invited some of the farmers to her office to inquire further about the situation to know the way forward for the farmers so that they will not be cheated.
 
Dr Lucy Acheampong after meeting with the farmers has issued a directive to all cashew farmers and buying companies that, anyone who will buy or sell cashew below the minimum price will be summoned and face the full rigorous of the law of the country if caught.

She again added that she will not sit idle for her farmers to be cheated by the cashew-buying companies and other individuals involved in the cashew trade since about 30% of cashew production in Ghana comes from the Tain district.

She finally called on the farmers to resist any attempt by the farmers to buy their cashew nuts below the minimum price set by the tree crops authorities.
