The Budget analyst of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly who was the chairman of the committee that sat on the lorry fare review, Mr Peter Nketia, has said it is against the law to charge fares above the agreed ones by the committee.

He was speaking in an interview with Kwabena Obeng Akrofi on Ark in the morning on the issue that was brought before the committee that some drivers are overcharging passengers.

He however called on passengers to report drivers engaged in such activities or report them to the Assembly.

He was responding to the plea of some elders from Dumasua who were seeking to compare their fare to that of Abesim which was unbearable for passengers as they claim the distance between Sunyani to Abesim and Sunyani to Dumasua are the same.

He added that upon measuring the distance between Sunyani to Abesim/Dumasua and considering the toll booth, they came to the conclusion that the fare of Dumasua should be reduced from 3.30p to 2.80p.
