2006: After a golf tournament and one month after Melania Trump gave birth to their boy Barron, Stormy Daniels, then 27 years old, is accused of having sex with Donald Trump, 60, in a hotel room.

Stormy Daniels speaks with a publication in 2011 about her alleged liaison with Donald Trump. After the magazine is allegedly threatened with legal action, the story is not published.

2016: Days before Trump is elected president, Michael Cohen, Trump's attorney, pays Daniels $130,000 in return for her silence.

2018: The Wall Street Journal reports on the purported hush money and claims that Cohen participated in the suppression of the 2011 magazine article. Cohen and Trump both deny making the payment. Later that year, Cohen admits to tax evasion, receives a three-year prison term, and says that Trump gave him the order to pay the hush money.

2019: The Manhattan District Attorney's office starts looking into Trump Organization fraud claims.

2020: Donald Trump is unsuccessful in winning the presidency.

A grand jury is called in 2023 to review the proof in the investigation into hush money.
