SA Marikana massacre families say yet to get payout

According to some relatives of South African miners killed by police gunfire ten years ago, they have yet to get the promised compensation.

At the Lonmin platinum mine, 34 striking workers were killed in what is known as the Marikana massacre.

Although the South African government claims to have given about $10 million (£8.3 million) in compensation, many claims remain unresolved, and some families claim to feel forgotten.

The state has been given until the end of August to resolve all pending claims, under a court order.

Ten further individuals were slain in the days preceding the Marikana massacre, including non-striking miners, security guards, and two police officers.
