Sprinter drivers who ply Accra-Cape Coast-Takoradi have sounded a warning to the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly concerning the treatment meted out to them by city guards of the Assembly.

The drivers say, the harassment they go through in the hands of City guards in STMA is worrying to their work.

They told that the extraction of money by guards from them at the STMA is intolerable and they are not happy about it.

"It is only in STMA that city guards take money from you when they see you loading at Pipe Ano bus stop, Nkroful junction and Ketan junction. You know people cannot board from Ketan junction, Nkroful junction to Takoradi inside to get on board Accra cars while these Sprinter buses load by the roadside."

According to drivers, the lack of terminal has demanded that they load either by the side of the road after various concerns raised to station masters to get them one.

They asserted that city guards seem out of order and are interested in charging them unreasonable fees when they find them loading.

"A city guard will approach you, look into the car and charge you according to the number of people you have loaded in the car. Can you imagine that when a city guard sees three people in the car he takes 20 cedis, if the number is five he takes 30 cedis but when the number is more than seven he takes 50 cedis and above so calculate a day we have about 120 Sprinter bus coming to the STMA.

The Sprinter drivers are hoping that their plea to the station masters in Accra on the situation will be attended to.

"We have reported the issue to our station masters in Accra and Kasoa but nothing seems to be done on it."
