South Africa To Appoint Okonjo-Iweala Member of Economic Advisory Council

Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s two-term former Finance Minister has said she has been appointed by the South African Government a member of South Africa Presidential Economic Advisory Council.

Cyril Ramophosa plans to appoint Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa has stated that it is finalising plans to appoint Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as a member of the country’s Economic Advisory Council.

A statement from the government of South Africa states that “The Presidency is in the process of finalising the appointment of a seasoned economist and leader from West Africa who has accepted an invitation for her to serve as a member of the Council.”

 

A picture shared by the former Managing Director Operations World Bank, she is seen in a group picture with the South African President Ramaphosa and the eighteen members of the council.

It was learnt that the South African economy recently went into a second recession within two years.

Meanwhile, Okonjo-Iweala via her twitter handle said: ”With President Ramaphosa, members of cabinet, and members of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council in Pretoria discussing sources of growth for the South African economy and win-win economic interactions with the continent.”

According to her, the Council met in Pretoria on Friday with President Cyril Ramaphosa presiding, adding we discussed “sources of growth for the South African economy and win-win economic interactions with the continent.”

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is a two -time Nigerian finance minister respected around the world.
