GAUA Donates GH₵15,000 to the COVID-19 Fund

The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) have donated GH₵15,000 to aid government in the fight against the ensuing coronavirus Pandemic in Ghana.

The event took place at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 led by the Mr. Kwame Yeboah, the President of GAUA to the government represented and received by the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah.

 

 

Ghana as at Wednesday, April 8, 2020 had recorded 313 cases with the Greater Accra topping the regional distribution list with 274 followed by the Ashanti Region 25, Northern Region 10, Upper West Region 1, Eastern Region 1, Upper East Region 1 and Central Region 1.

Due to the rate at which the virus is threatening and seizing lives, the president declared a partial lockdown in the Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi, Kasoa and Tema to help restrain movements as part of measures. A COVID-19 fund was set up for individuals and corporate bodies to donate in order to support government to take care of the vulnerable in the affected areas.

Mr. Kwame Yeboah spoke on the need for civilians and corporate bodies to aid government in his quest to prepare the nation against the virus.

“The government is really putting down measures to help combat this virus yet we as citizen and institutions must support the charge to be fully effected.

"Based on the plea of the president towards the productive in the country, we have decided to support the course,” he said.

He further added that the association have also given out a few items worth GH₵5,000 to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital to help motivate the frontline workers in their contest against the novel disease.

 

 

Responding to the presentation, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah thanked GAUA for their act of patriotism towards the nation. He defined the season as a time for industrious men and women to express love and compassion in their various societies by reaching out to the needy.

According to him, anything is acceptable to help the vulnerable to be able to endure the challenging times where a partial lockdown has been initiated by government.

“These are demanding times and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly is calling on citizens who have enough means to survive to help support the needy.

“The COVID-19 is indeed seizing lives and if we can be able to go by the president’s directives, we need the support of ever individual capable of supporting the needy,” he ended.
