Relocate us to the affordable houses pending evaluation of our landed property-Mamobi, protestors demands

Residents affected by the planned demolition exercise to be carried out by the Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly(ANMA) at Mamobi are calling on the government to relocate them to any of the affordable houses pending evaluation of their landed properties.

The residents who marched through the principal streets of Mamobi, lorry parks, and market centers within Mamobi chanted songs to register their displeasure appealing to the government to rather than rendering them homeless, relocate them to any of the affordable houses close to their jurisdiction.

According to the protestors, their outburst was occasioned by a notice of eviction dated August 8, 2022, with a-21 day ultimatum, served on them on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive for ANMA, indicating an intended reclamation of the land in question.

According to the aggrieved protestors, though they acknowledged that the Kasoa Kuda Market land in Mamoobi belongs to the government but the stalls and stores were built by their grandparents, parents, and themselves.

According to one of the members of the protestors, Mr. Merorne Lord-Adem, the said notice which was served on August 8, gave them up to 28th of August to relocate, a matter they found as inhumane treatment and unacceptable.

Speaking in a telephone interview with Soireenews.com, the leader of the protest explained that it was the same Assembly that gave them the go-ahead to erect landed properties on the parcel of land.

To give them further assurance of no future eviction, the assembly makes pay rent which rent he has a receipt as evidence.

They could not understand where the motivation for the move by the MCE, Aminu Mohammed Zakari came from.

The residents stressed that they are not squatters but legitimate occupants of the land.

According to residents, they are resolved to go to all lengths to state their eligibility hence the need for compensation.
