The Kumasi Metro Health Director, Dr Gyimah Omare Sasu has alerted that recipients waiting for the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine are excluded from the Johnson and Johnson.

According to her, the current vaccine (Johnson and Johnson) requires only one shot unlike the former therefore those who took the AstraZeneca are excluded.

She told that the AstraZeneca vaccines would be available in the latter days of August or early September for recipients to take the second jab.

5,600 vaccines have been given to the Kumasi Metropolis to safeguard the lives of residents with many expected to arrive to take care of over 1 million people. According to Dr Gyimah Omare Sasu, Kumasi is one of the hotspots of the pandemic and it is very necessary that residents take an active part in the vaccination exercise.

She praised that the number of people receiving the jab is encouraging as compared to the former and called for more education on the subject.

With this, she publicized that Kumasi will be a covid free Region if the various health protocols are adhered to.

"There are almost 1m people in the Kumasi Metropolis and since the pandemic came, it has affected a lot of things,” she said.

“I am encouraging all people to partake in the various health directives outlined by the Ghana Health Service on covid-19.

“Because Kumasi is also a hotspot, it is necessary to go for the jab. We have received 5,600 Johnson and Johnson vaccines for residents in Kumasi and we are encouraging all to be part of the exercise. Hypertension and Asthmatic patients are encouraged to go for the jab and it is needful

She advised the populace in the Metropolis to keenly partake in the ongoing John and Johnson COVID-19 vaccination.

Dr Gyimah Omare Sasu told Soireenews that it is expedient for Ghanaians to take the jab seriously to conserve their lives for everyday routine and protect others from going through the hassle of covid-19 infection.

She mentioned that the Suntreso Government Hospital, Mater Dei Hospital, Maternal and Health Hospital at Pampaso, KMA clinic, Manhyia hospital, Sepe Apamprem Health Center and the Moshie Zongo Clinic are centers for the vaccination.

She educated that participants must “come with your ID card make sure to be in nose mask.

“Stay for 15 minutes and receive guidance before leaving for home.”
