Over 400 Traders at Suame Magazine behind the Ghana Water Company have expressed bitter concerns over the approach of the Municipal Chief Executive of Suame, Honorable Osei Bobie wants to eject them from their containers.

Works on the road from Suame behind the Ghana Water Company to Club 600 will begin soon and according to the traders, their place of work although it’s on the pavements and the contractor has assured them that it won’t affect their containers yet the MCE seems burning to eject them from the grounds.

The reason behind the MCE’s bursting attempt to vacate them out of the grounds, they explained was because traders some time ago stood against him in an effort to build stores at the back of the Ghana Water Company which would have affected them massively.

They explained that the stores wouldn’t have benefitted them for the reason that millions of cedis would have been required for purchase hence their decision to stand against the MCE’s plans.

“Our containers are on the pavement, having traded here for 17 years due to hardship.

“Last Sunday, we received information that stickers of evacuation have been attached on our containers due to a soon to start road construction.

“We were not happy at the approach and decided to visit the Municipal. We met the MCE and he confirmed the decision, He further disclosed to us that works will soon begin on the road and so there is the need for us to evacuate.

“He promised to find us a place, if not, within four days, we must relocate else, all our containers will be destroyed during the exercise to clear the road by the contractor. We pleaded with him to give us three months but to no avail.

“His reason is that he had wanted to construct stores inside the waterworks some time ago but we thwarted his plans and so if a new opportunity has presented itself to revenge us, he will proceed with his plans. We are pleading to him to give us some time else everything we have worked for years will go down the drain.”

The due date of the vacation notice was Tuesday, May 4, 2021, and traders seem depressed about the situation given that they see the MCE’s actions as just vengeance, having personally expressed to them for challenging his authority formerly.

According to a crushed female trader who spoke to Soireenews, they met the Honorable Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency, Honorable Osei Kyei Mensah over the weekend and addressed their concerns but he directed them to settle the matter with the Municipal before his involvement.

“We met with Honorable Kyei Mensah at a program he attended and addressed our concerns. He assured us that if the demarcation does not affect us, then we have no problem yet we must exercise patients and speak with the Municipal before his involvement.

“We went to the Municipal and spoke with the engineer in the presence of the Honorable but he angrily spoke to our face that he will vacate us for not supporting his works some time ago and warned us that if we don’t vacate by Friday, we’ll find our products and machines in the waste the next day."

They are therefore pleading to the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to come to their aid.

Meanwhile, the Otumfuo Npintinkafohene, Nana Sarfo Kantanka Appau II, who is the custodian of the land has assured the traders to calm down because he won’t allow anybody to eject them from their place of work.
