“Our Vessels are Full of Expatriates because we lack the men” - NAFAG Bemoans.

The National Fisheries Association of Ghana(NAFAG) has bemoaned the rate at which expatriates are taking over the industrial fishing vessels due to the lack of Ghanaian skilled men on board.

Acting President of NAFAG Mr. Simon Agah in an interview said they are forced to hire expatriates because the former Nautical College now (Regional Maritime University) has canceled all major fisheries courses and as a result not able to produce Ghanaian officers to Mend the industrial vessels.

He notes the Association has made countless efforts for the Regional Maritime University to re-introduce those courses but it kept complaining of funds.

He, therefore, appealed to the government to help introduce some short courses at the Maritime University to help train officers to handle the industrial vessels.

He again called on Fisheries Commission to ensure that the system is policed properly to avoid deviants who engage in illegal activities on the seas.
