Boundaries disputes affecting Population and Housing Census in Ahafo Region - Ghana Statistical Service

The Ahafo Regional Director of the Ghana Statistical Service, Mr Bernard Oduro, urged the public to participate in the census, saying it would help the government plan for its citizens.

The numerous boundaries disputes in Ahafo Region is affecting the 2021 Ghana Population and Housing Census in the region, the Ahafo Regional Director of the Ghana Statistical Service has revealed.

The Ghana Statistical Service began its seven days first-phase of the 2021 last week Monday and was expected to end on Monday, June 21, 2021, starting with the enlistment of structures.

The Ahafo Regional Director of the Ghana Statistical Service, Mr Bernard Oduro told Soireenews Sulley Dramani, that the first phase of the exercise has been affected by hard-to-reach Communities, boundary disputes, between, Bono and Ashanti Regions while some are between districts with other regions.

Due to the creation of the Ahafo Region, the Boundary between Bono and Ashanti Regions has become a challenge for the field Worker's to identify structures under these regions.

"There is a Community in Asutifi South that appears in our Tablet as Asunafo North some appears in  Ashanti whiles others in Bono regions," he Stated.

Mr Bernard Oduro has assured chiefs in the region that the Ghana Statistical Service is doing what it can to resolve the disputes so far,  therefore appeal to chiefs, Assembly members to liaise with the Ghana Statistical Service to ensure the exercise ends successfully.

 He urged the public to participate in the census, saying it would help the government plan for its citizens.

“In every home, if you don't know the number of people you have in your household, you will not be able to plan for them. Knowing the numbers and what they speak will help the government plan for the country,” he stated.
