Majority Leader in Parliament who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Osei  Kyei Mensah Bonsu has tipped the Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2024 general elections as the flag-bearer.
Speaking in an interview with Sompa FM and TV in Kumasi, Mr. Mensah Bonsu revealed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be the best person to lead the NPP going into the 2024 elections.
” For me, I think Dr. Bawumia should be our flag bearer going into the 2024 elections. I know what I’m saying will spark a lot of controversies but this is my opinion and I’m not scared to let it out.
"I will not be the running mate for Dr. Bawumia but I was told to elect someone from Ashanti Region for him and I know they are working on it. Dr. Bawumia has enough experience to rule the country and make this place a better one,” the majority leader said on Sompa FM and TV.
However, his endorsement of the Vice President as the standard flagbearer of the NPP has sparked another controversy. after he boldly revealed who he thinks should lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections as the flagbearer.
The NPP is supposed to elect a new flag bearer of the party going into the 2024 general elections because the current President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is not eligible to contest again.
The Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia, and the current Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr. Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanteng are the leading people to win the position.
The Member of Parliament MP for Assin Central Constituency, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong has also shown interest in the position.
