“MMDCEs  Will Soon Be Sanctioned For Abandoning Old Projects”-Minister

Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives who failed to complete projects of former governments would be sanctioned.
This is according to the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development.

According to the Ministry,  the MMDCEs are mandated to complete old infrastructural projects before the commencement of new ones.
"We have attached laws and incentives for the MMDCEs to ensure old projects are completed for use before new ones commence", deputy Minister, Hon. Augustine Collins Ntim told Sunyani-based Ark FM on Tuesday.
“We have assessment tools that are used to monitor those who fail to comply with this directive. Those who comply earned up to GHc1.2m yearly which is not part of the common fund. Those who fail lose some marks in the assessment process.
The Deputy Minister added that the chief executives would also be assessed based on their involvement in the implementation of national policies at their local levels.
He said the government is set to roll out phase two of the planting for export and Rural Development which would involve the cultivation of seven different seedlings.
This comes as several projects that were not completed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government have been left unattended by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
Making reference to data from the Institute of Fiscal Studies (IFS), SDDDF-Africa says abandoned projects are a huge drain on the already fragile Ghanaian economy and cost the poor taxpayer a whopping $25million each year.
In a press release from the Organisation, it says it is more than scandalized over the culture of the Government’s continual neglect of developmental projects across the country.
Meanwhile, SDDDF-Africa wants the sitting government to come clean on its own campaign promises such as 1D1F, 1V1D, and restore the status of Korle Lagoon.
It shares the view that so far, not much has been done in terms of fulfilling the numerous promises government made to the people.
