Lionel Messi has gone the extra mile to make a new record in world football.

The Argentine on Tuesday night outshined the Legendary Pele’s record of goals for a single club with his 644th notch for Barcelona against Real Valladolid.

Messi scored in the 65-minute to make it three for the Blaugranas on the night following two earlier goals Clement Lenglet and Martin Braithwaite.

Pele made the record after 19 seasons with Santos as the 33-year old took 17 seasons to overtake the mark of the Brazilian.

“And even less the one that I achieved today which belonged to @pele … I can only thank everyone who helped me over the years, my teammates, my family, my friends and everyone who supports me every day.”

English sports pundit, Gary Linekar was quick on the night to respond to the player’s feat through a tweet saying, “Lionel Messi has scored his 644th goal for @FCBarcelona. He’s beaten @Pele’s record of most goals scored at a single club. This is a record that no one thought would ever be beaten. It will never be beaten again.”
