The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly in the Western North Region, Mr. Sebastian Obeng, has officially inspected the ongoing construction works on the 4-kilometer Nkronua to Merewa road.

The MCE actively participated in and supervised the weeding along the road to ensure the grader had access.

Key Project Details & ScopeThe Route:

The stretch spans approximately 20 kilometers, linking strategic farming hubs like Asawinso 'A', Merewa, Manse, Abooso, and Nkronua.

To permanently fix dangerous, winding, and undulating alignments that have turned the corridor into a high-risk zone.

Substantially improves the movement of agricultural produce to primary market centers and slashes exorbitant transit fares.

On Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), it has emerged that the Koantwi Mining Company Limited actively mobilized heavy equipment to execute critical temporary reshaping, stabilizing the terrain for full-scale contractual works.

Speaking in an interview with African TODAY NEWS on Wednesday June 10, 2026, the MCE urged residents to cooperate fully with the construction crews to prevent unnecessary field delays.

Sebastian Obeng stated that besides the ongoing work on the Nkronua-Merriwa road, the Assembly and the government have launched several road improvement projects to accelerate economic development across the municipality."

In July 2025, the MCE, pointed out that the Assembly successfully rehabilitated the Nkatieso–Awaso–Bekwai Road.

This critical route had been in a severely dilapidated state for several years, heavily impacting local travel and commerce.

According to him, the Assembly initiated the work to repair heavy potholes and erosion on the stretch.

He stresed that this served as an essential interim measure while awaiting full-scale long-term contracting.

On supervision, the MCE noted that the project was closely monitored by a local technical team, including Municipal Coordinating Director Mr. Joseph Darko and Municipal Road Engineer Mr. Elvis Yeboah.

He ppinted that the local farmers can now transport their agricultural produce to markets far more efficiently, reducing post-harvest transport stress.

Accirding to Mr Obeng, the rehabilitation has significantly lowered commuter travel times and reduced the severe risk of vehicular accidents caused by the road's previous state.

He added that the improved transport links have made it easier for traders to reach customers and are expected to attract new investments to the Western North Region.

Significant road infrastructure initiatives in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality include ongoing pothole patching, major regraveling projects, and the construction of new bridges and traffic control infrastructure.

Local authorities are actively reshaping and regraveling deteriorated feeder roads to ease transportation for farmers and traders.Recent updates on specific road and infrastructure projects include:Road Maintenance & Upgrades:

Routine maintenance has commenced to fix severely deteriorated roads and potholes across several townships.

The assembly awarded regraveling contracts, such as the Humjebre–Akwaso road rehabilitation, to improve commuter experiences and reduce vehicle wear.

Local authorities and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area have approved plans to install traffic lights in key sections of Bibiani and Sefwi Bekwai to improve road safety and control traffic congestion.

Commercial Upgrades: To support the region's transport and agricultural hubs, the Municipal Assembly signed a contract to construct a modernized 24-hour market in Sefwi Bekwai, which includes a dedicated lorry station and transport interchange.
