The Kumasi Metropolitan Mayor, Honourable Osei Assibey Antwi has been urged to resign his decision to step down from the ongoing Kumasi mayor race contest.

Traders at the Kumasi Racecourse who are worried about the mayor's decision to step down have appealed he change his mind of quitting since they believe he will be given the nod to continue his good works by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.

"We were thrown into a state of shock when got the news that the mayor had tendered a resignation letter to contesting the race again. The mayor's patience, hard work and respect for people coupled with his listening attributes shows how he was a good leader who deserved a second chance," they said.

According to the aggrieved traders, even though there were a few others who used to criticize the hard-working mayor, he was a listening servant.

"We got stranded when we were sent from the Central Market for the Kejetia project. We walked everywhere around Kumasi but couldn't find a place to operate. It was this Mayor Osei Assibey Antwi who helped us to acquire Racecourse. Why must he resign without giving us any reason? We still need him back," they told Soireenews.

Mr Osei Assibey Antwi who had been selected for a final vetting after a tough contest with eight others at the regional level shockingly tendered a resignation letter just a day to vetting.

But reacting to the mayor's resignation, the worried Bantama, Racecourse traders' Association members say they do not agree with his decision.

Madam Kaakyire Badu, Secretary of the association speaking to this reporter said that they prefer the coming back of the KMA Mayor.

She however revealed that should the mayor still insist on his decision, then he (the mayor) and the other decision-makers should make sure they bring in a  competent person just like the outgoing one.

The traders, therefore, appealed for the mayor's come back since his type of leadership is unparalleled.

"I can confidently tell you that Honourable Osei Assibey Antwi will pull at least 90 per cent from traders across Kumasi should you go round to check," one of them concluded.
