THE First Vice chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Sofo Awudu Azorka, has blasted President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, stressing that Akufo Addo failed as a leader because he is president for himself not for the people.
Mockery Akufo-Addo's stance against handing over the presidency to his predecessor, Mr John Dramani Mahama, Chief Azorka in an angry tone stated that "l swear almighty God Akufo-Addo was a joker and that he would be a very person to call John Dramani Mahama via telephone to say l hand over power over the presidency to Mahama."
"I am urging all the supporters are members of the NDC not to be worried or disturbed about that undemocratic and unguided statement made by President Akufo-Addo that he would hand over the presidency to Mr Mahama,"
"When the time comes that very day Akufo-Addo himself would be the person would call former President John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him and called Maham via telephone call to come take over the presidency," Azorka allayed fear.
Mr Azorka made the forgoing call when he was speaking at an official launch of the campaign for incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) of the area, Honourable Francis -Xavier Kojo Sosu to contest the parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NDC in the 2024 showdown.
The party commissioned the new ultra-modern National Democratic Congress office in Madina the ran administrative affairs of the part in the area.
Addressing the charged crowds, indicated that whatever happens, constitutionally, the sitting president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will hand over power a month before the general elections of Saturday December 7, 2024.
Highlighting the provisions of the 1992 constitution of Ghana that detail this, he explained that no attempt by members of the New Patriotic Party to intimidate electorates with their comments about not handing over power will wash.
"Section 6 of Act 845 stipulates that the outgoing President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and his driver's mate, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, along with all their appointees, including key figures like Bryan Acheampong, must prepare and submit their handing over notes not later than 30 days before the date of the upcoming general elections.
"However, recent statements coming from President Nana Addo, Lord Commey, and lately Bryan Acheampong to the effect that the NPP won't hand over power to the NDC no matter the outcome of the 2024 general elections can only come from a desperate and arrogant president and government official," he stated.
He further referenced how such comments and examples of countries where people have refused to hand over political power have turned chaotic, cautioning the NPP to desist from such utterances.
He stressed that the NDC would hold the NPP accountable for fully adhering to the transitional provisions of the constitution.
"We have all been witnesses to the devastating effects on countries whose incumbent presidents and governments lost power and decided not to hand over power within the sub-region.
