INTELLIGENCE gathered indicate that a consignment of cocaine has been intercepted and impounded by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Tema port amidst tension.
But information available to this news outlet indicates that there is a deliberate attempt by some NACOC officials under the Ministry of Interior and some top persons from the corridors of power to discontinue the investigations and the eventual prosecution of these suspects despite their arrest four months ago in this high profile cocaine scandal.
The arrest, according to the sources closed to the Ghana Police Service, was jointly done by NACOC security personnel in conjunction with the Customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Team Port Authority in the Greater Accra Region.
The suspects who are the Managing Director of Trust Link Ventures Limited, a company that deals in cold store business in Tema, Mr Emmanuel Kwame Ackah and Managing Director of SINNOT Shipping and Logistics Company, Mr Smilis Jojo Clegg, all from Tema in the Greater Accra have been arrested with over 600 kilograms of cocaine worth over several millions of Dollars concealed in ceramics for shipment.
The two syndicates were arrested by the narcotics security personnel when they were in the process to transport the concealed cocaine in ceramics to SINNOT Shipping Company and Logistics Company for onward shipment abroad.
The information available to this news outlet so far suggests that the two suspects—Mr Emmanuel Kwame Ackah Director of Trust Link Ventures Limited and his accomplice were arrested and granted police enquiry bail at the NACOC Police Station in Accra since August 7, 2023 after they were charged of possession of narcotics unlawfully.
However, the police enquiry bail form of Mr Emmanuel Kwame Ackah which was signed by one Mr. Jerry Mensh is in possession of this news outlet and it clearly showed that Mr Jerry Mensah runs the risk of forfeiting a whopping GH¢ 800,000.00 if Mr Emmanuel Kwame Ackah runs away from facing justice in Ghana.
The begging question in the minds of serious Ghanaians is, why is Mr Emmanuel Kwame Ackah and Smilis Jojo Clegg since their arrest in August 2023 and their subsequent confession of guilt have not been paraded before our courts to face justice for their crime but are now walking freely although the hard evidence found with them and the way they concealed these drugs for export speaks volumes of their criminal mindset.
"The modus operandi or method of operation of these two business tycoons are that Mr. Emmanuel Kwame Ackah who has a cold store in Tema is the brain behind this filthy business and uses the cold store as a cover up for the Narcotics business. He uses Mr. Clegg shipping company to transport the drugs outside the shores of this country while he receives these drugs when it successfully leaves the Tema port abroad.
Sadly, Luck however, eluded the two suspects when they were arrested by the police in their attempt to transport the Narcotics this time round in August 2023 and after four months after their bail, they are yet to be arraigned before our courts to face the consequences of their actions.
The development which has not gone down well with many concerned Ghanaians who sre calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to, immediately intervene by setting up a committee to investigate the scandal in order to ensure that the syndicates face the full rigours of the law.
Some staff of NARCOC are even finding it difficult to understand why their Boss is trying to compromise his hard-earned integrity to condone this heinous crime despite such magnitude of evidence uncovered and the mindset in concealing these drugs in the manner found.
They wished their Boss will call the bluff of these faceless drug dealers asking for a non-prosecution of this case.
