The Assistant Manager of Community Relation for Mineral Commission, Mr. Steven Korshi- Agbor has said, “the government does not support the idea where investors are denied access to undertake activities that is beneficial to the country”.

He was however quick to add that,  the government does not also condone investors that fail to comply with the country's rules.
He said this when speaking at a media workshop on the Newmont Ahafo North Project held at the Eusbett hotel in Sunyani.
The program organized by Newmont Ghana was aimed at educating selected media in the Bono, Ahafo, and Bono East on the progress of the Ahafo North mine project.
Revealing the processes that investors go through before acquiring land for any mining activity, he said, "We have an existing arrangement in the acquisition of land for mining”.
"The lands are mostly vested in the hands of families and chiefs. The government, after releasing it out to any investor to exploit any natural resource, the company has two weeks to announce it to the Chiefs and community people. After which the town folks have sixty days to lodge complaints or otherwise of the work the company is about to undertake”, he explained further.
The Ahafo mine is one of the largest gold mines in the Republic of Ghana and the world. The mine is located in the center of the country in the Brong-Ahafo Region The mine has estimated reserves of 17 million of gold.
The company has been accused of "human rights abuses and irresponsible practices" by Earthworks, an environmental organization, and others.
