The Member of Parliament (MP) for Obuasi West, Honourable Kwaku Agyemang Kwarteng has issued a two weeks ultimatum to 'Akwabus mining', a small scale mining company to reclaim his used land at Memriwa No.2 in the Obuasi Municipality or face court action.

The Obuasi West MP on a tour in his constituency saw that the mining company, irrespective of warnings issued by him or the assembly has fallen on death ears.

According to the MP, the company was given the warning to cover its pits and reclaim the land they used to be working on yet none of the pleas has been heeded and this has left the Member Of Parliament furious.

Speaking to Ghanaba, host of shaft FM morning show monitored by Soireenews, the lawmaker said "I want to use this medium to inform Akwabus mining that he's been given a two weeks ultimatum to cover and reclaim the used land that is directly behind Memriwa no.2 school building or face us in court"

"We have cautioned him before in December last year, but it seems our warnings fell on death ears, we won't issue any warning again. The devastation he has caused is beyond comprehension" he said.

He further called in the chiefs who are given some amount of money from the profits derived from small scale mining to use it to the benefits of the communities".

"The chiefs in the various communities where mining takes place are given some money, I want to plead with the traditional rulers to use that money to the benefit of all and sundry in the community," he said.

Honourable Kwaku Kwarteng is currently the chairman of the Finance Committee in Parliament and a former Deputy Minister of Finance in charge of Revenue.
