The Western North Regional Cocoa Extension Officer, Mr. Frank Osei has disclosed that the cocoa rehabilitation project initiated by Cocobod is moving successfully.

The cocoa rehabilitation project, an initiative by COCOBOD directed to cut down all diseased cocoa trees for re-planting with new hybrid cocoa seedlings.

The Western North Regional Cocoa Extension Officer comments are in relation to the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Joseph Boahen Aidoo’s statement he made earlier this month that his outfit was recruiting 50,000 people to be engaged in a nationwide cocoa rehabilitation exercise.

The Western North Regional Cocoa Extension Officer told SN24 News reporter that the initiative has started is moving on well in the region.

He added that the government has given his outfit some plantain to be giving to farmers for free of charge to support their seedlings to grow faster.

He declared that the cocoa sector has introduced a new program called cocoa pruning which will also help farmers to remove a certain part of the cocoa trees such as the branches in order to yield more cocoa beans during the bumper harvest.

Mr. Frank Osei finally in an interview with soiree news reporter advised farmers especially cocoa farmers to embrace all policies laid down by Cocobod and further pleaded with them not to politicize farming initiatives rather should follow the measures to help improve upon agriculture in the country.
