A former lecturer of Catholic University College, Edward Anane has said there is no justification for people chanting about the state of insecurity in Ghana saying it is an exaggeration on their part.

According to him, the rate of crime in some part of Accra and the central region is a result of the high populated density which is one of the causes of the crimes.  He was speaking on Ark in the morning monitored by Soiree News saying, for a state of insecurity to be declared in a country, it means crime rate must be recorded in all the 16 regions on daily basis.

He added that when the population is high there is the possibility that the crime rate will be on the rise as Accra is having a population of over 4 million people.

He was however quick to add that, the state security urgencies must be proactive in order to be on alert to prevent the current happening from escalating.

Mr Edward added blamed the lack of proper national data as a contributing factor to the recent crime rate in the country.

He said, there is no proper monitoring when recruiting officers into the Police service to check whether an individual seeking enrolment has a criminal record or not.”

He added that even the Ghana card which was supposed to care for these insecurity issues is yet to be materialized as some registered individuals have not received their cards after registration.
