The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has announced the relaxation of the existing curfew in some parts of the State.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday, June 17, 2021, and made available to newsmen by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu.

The Governor had during the recent surge in insecurity, imposed curfew in Aba, Umuahia, Ohafia, Bende, Umunneochi and Arochukwu Local Government Areas to check the activities of criminal elements disturbing the peace of the state.

The statement noted that the curfew in Aba and Umuahia municipalities would from Friday, April 18, take effect from 10 pm to 6 am daily, while that of Ohafia, Bende, Umunneochi and Arochukwu LGAs now take effect from 8 pm to 6 am daily.

The statement reads, “In view of noticeable security improvements within the state and neighbouring states, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the relaxation of existing curfew times as follows:

''Curfew in Aba and Umuahia municipalities now takes effect from 10 pm to 6 am daily

“Curfew in Ohafia, Bende, Umunneochi and Arochukwu LGAs now takes effect from 8 pm to 6 am daily

“Government wishes to advise citizens and residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious movements to security agents and ensure full compliance with the new curfew regimes which take effect from Friday, 18th June 2021, subject to further reviews.”
