The Ohemaa of Ampatubuom in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region, Nana Ama Serwaa Ampaafo is with a deep heart calling upon the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to pay a quick visit to his township and surrounding communities and act in response to their challenges.

According to her, residents within the various towns, Yapesa, Brofoyedu and Kokoben have been robbed of the national cake and every good thing initiated by the government in the Ashanti Region. She told that they hear of the inventive implementations of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo on radio and television but benefitting from such is another story to be told.

Deplorable road

Nana Ama Serwaa Ampaafo with grief told Soireenews reporter, Isaac Owusu, that her subjects have always petitioned her with their deplorable road issues, poor school infrastructures, lack of potable water and many others yet the disloyalty by the current and previous government towards them leave her with nothing to answer.

She has been trying to find avenues to make her voice heard by the government and so when Soireenews visited the township, the Queen-mother took the opportunity to expound how life has been without the help of the country’s leaders which is gradually fading them from the record of Ghana.

She asserted that the appalling state of their road is the key to their problems, especially during rainfall. The situation, she told to Soireenews, is leading to the collapse of their school because most of the parents in surrounding communities have withdrawn their wards due to the expensiveness of fares.

Nana Hemaa explained that during heavy downpours, cars refuse to ply on the road and the willing ones charge hefty sums of money for fear of breaking in the middle of the road due to its muddy nature.

“Our road is affecting the school activities of the children. Most of the parents have withdrawn the wards from the school and our education system is at risk,” Nana said.

“When it rains, people chatter cars for 50 cedis and even that they have to walk from a nearby hill where the car settles them to another junction to board another for their journey. It's very unfortunate to go through such situations, making it look like we are in a village. The fact that we are the end of the stretch does not account us as villagers.”

Nana revealed that pregnant women go through ordeals before they finally find a place to conceive. According to her, the only traditional midwife who used to assist expectant women is in her old age and can no longer cope with the job, which has brought vulnerability to women who have taken seeds at Ampatubuom.

“Pregnant women have to be laid on constructed wooden stretchers flagged with cloth in between before they can be conveyed to the hospital,” Nana continued.

“The only traditional midwife in the village is at old age and cannot resume her duties. A lot of pregnant women are losing their lives in this town and if no one intervenes, we will be affected,” she said.

Nana finally exposed that the Basic School at Ampatubuom have been denied of the school feeding program since its inception and reason have not been made known since. She politely exclaimed and requested Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to quickly resolve matters before his term elapse.

“The school feeding program has not been felt in this village and it makes it look like we are not a part of the country. What is going on? Nana Add Dankwa should please come to our aid and resolve our matter else things are getting out of hand. We are hopeless.”

Assemblyman, Yaapesa Electoral Area, Honorable Lot Adu Asabre interpreted that the only active and restored rooms for the class were built by former President John Agyekum Kufuor during his term and since then, no government has contributed to their education unit.

He confirmed that no pupil has been a benefit of the school feeding program.

“President Kufuor built three classrooms during his term and that is what we are using. The rest were built by the community and due to our strength, we couldn’t give it a better shape.

“The school feeding program is out of reach and it’s sad. There is no Junior High School here so, at the end of the day, children have settled home because travelling a far distance to pursue their education is a massive challenge.”

Honorable Lot Adu Asabre, Assemblyman

The Assemblymember addressed that parents are withdrawing their wards from the school due to teacher’s transfer requests. He explained that school teachers posted at Ampatubuom demand for transfers due to the poor condition of living.

“The assembly has awarded a three classroom block to a contractor and after lentil, he has abandoned the building which has been employed by wee smokers as I'm speaking.

“Every posted teacher requests for transfers because of the poor condition of life here. In fact, their highest duration is a year. For this reason, parents who are seeking for better future for their wards have started taking them out of the school.”

He called on the government to come to their aid.
