Fire at Tano South EC Office: Ahafo NDC accuse fingers
Electoral Commission

The Ahafo Regional Organizer for the opposition National Democratic Congress, Charles Asiedu says the New Patriotic Party and Electoral Commission should be blamed for the fire outbreak at the Tano South EC office.

The Electoral Commission’s office in the Tano South Constituency on Sunday, May 23, 2021, was razed down by the fire. Reports indicate that about five offices including the IT room were burnt beyond repair. Meanwhile, the cause of the fire has not been revealed yet.

Speaking on the incident to Soiree News, Charles Asiedu said he suspects that the Electoral Commision connived with NPP to set the office ablaze due to the ongoing court hearing on the just ended December General elections.

The Tano South National Democratic Congress is contesting the outcome of the 2020 parliamentary election at the Wenchi High Court in the Bono Region. The party believes their candidate; Dr Hannah Louisa Bissiw was cheated hence the legal action.

Mr Asiedu argued that the NDC has all evidence intact and careless about what happens to documents of the commission.

He questioned how fire gutted the office without the security at the premises not reaching out for help. He added that the EC office after the election has not been fully active hence human error could not be a contributory factor.

He however believes the incident was a calculated attempt to discredit the court case.
