Burial grounds

Residents of Ejisu Hwereso, a farming community in the Ashanti region and under the Ejisu Municipal have lamented over burial space in the community.

According to the Assemblymember, some leaders have taken the laws into their hands and are selling burial grounds for building.

Nana Opponkese IV, who was the king of Hwereso passed away in the year 2018 and until now, no one has been enstooled to manage the properties of the community.

Residents have revealed that the absence of the king has led to the mismanagement of the community.

Speaking to the former Assemblymember of Hwereso-Boankra electoral area, Honorable Williams K Obeng, some elders in the absence of the king have engaged themselves in the selling of some of the land of the community affecting their burial grounds.

He added he fought this act before and during his time in office as the assembly member, and he's still trying his possible best to put a stop to it.

He has reckoned that if no laws are put in place to halt the attitude of the elders, their community will soon run out of burial space.

He pleaded that the media, as the fourth estate, must come to their aid to help resolve their leadership challenge so that a chief can be enstooled to put a stop to the selling of the community lands, especially the land for burial.
