He has disclosed that MMDCEs appointment must be based on competence and willingness to work.

The former Minister of Local government and Rural Development (MLGRD), Mr Kwadwo Agyei Darko has advice the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo to appoint his MMDCEs on merit and due diligence.

The anchor under the Kuffour’s administrations' said this in an interview with Ark Mantamu Kase3bo on the raising of concerns by some residents calling on particular individuals to be selected to represent the President in their various Districts.

He emphasized that there may be people that will use various means to get supporters to rally behind them but may lack the ability and the willingness to work for the benefit of the public.

He gave an illustration that such is likened as a candidate who at the Spence of the death of his Child chose religious activity ahead of the life of his own blood.

According to him, persons of such cannot occupy those positions due to security reasons.

After Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo’s victory on the December 7, 2020, general elections to serve the country on another four-year mandate, the president is yet to announce names of MMDCes.

He has however ordered for the incumbent MMDCEs to remain at post till further notice. Several concerns have however emanated from the various assemblies for the president to consider nominating Grassroot persons who are willing to serve and not to be served.                

Adding to these calls, the former Sunyani Legislature added that the selection sometime should be base on the personality’s qualities as to how good he relates with the people for they are representatives of the President and must be unifiers since they are also chosen out of political parties.
