The Paramount Chief of the Ga State in the Greater Accra Region, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has stated categorically that it is necessary for all Ghanaian community leaders and the traditional authorities, particularly in Ga Dangbe communities to declare war against the activities of  Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queers (LGBTQ+) in Ghana.

He described the LGBTQI+ and their activities as a curse that must be stopped.

"Being the recognized member of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs (GARHCs), l am strong in support of the stance of the House to reject the LGBTQ+ activities in the Ga State and the country as  King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II reaffirmed.

In days past, Vice President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, King Odaifio Wulentsi VI, underscored that under no circumstances will the traditional leaders accept the respect the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

Delivering a welcome address when President Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy call on them, King Wulentsi asked for the Legislature and the Executive to work amicably to ensure the passage of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, popularly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

“We want to use this opportunity to voice our displeasure of accepting people indulging people on same-sex marriage. As fathers of the land, we have monitored the social and public discussions, and we want to add our voices that this practice will not be entertained or tolerated among our people.

In August, eight parliamentarians jointly submitted a private bill to push for the criminalisation of LGBTQ+ activities in the country.

The proponents also want the promotion, advocacy, funding, and acts of homosexuality to be forbidden in the country.

Since the controversial bill was made public, opposers have argued that should it be passed into law, it will violate the fundamental human rights of individuals who identify with the group.

The bill is currently with the Parliamentary Committee that has since called on citizens to submit documents stating their positions on the bill.

However, speaking in an interview with soireenews.com on Monday, October 25, 2021, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II urged the speaker Rt. Hon Alban Kingsford Bagbin and the entire members of parliament to pass the bill into law to explicitly prohibit the activities of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queers in Ghana.

Meanwhile, the Divisional Chief of Kokrobite also kicked against the activities of LGBTQ+ persons and warned that they will soon direct their traditional warriors (Asafo) groups to embark on a massive house-cleaning exercise to rid the municipality of any LGBT tendencies.

The intended move, Soireenews understands, stems from the belief that some LGBTQI persons have invaded communities including Kokrobite, Bortianor, Oshyie and Langma all within Ga South municipality.

According to him, they had a tip-off about meetings of some LGBTQI+ groups held in Kokrobite, Bortianor, Oshyie and Langma two weeks ago, threatening that they will invoke curses of the powerful GaDangbe river deities and shrines on persons practising same-sex relationships in their areas.

He stated that he and his kinsmen have vehemently rejected the practices of LGBTQI and described same-sex marriage as an abomination to the traditions and customs of the Ga State.

According to the traditional office holder, he and his elders including the traditional priests and priestesses will invoke curses of the powerful GaDangbe river deities and shrines on anybody or institutions who endorses and practise a same-sex relationship in the enclaves of Ga State.

The overload of Ga State stressed that he will never allow the practice of same-sex marriage in the Ga State, and vowed to arrest and punish anybody or institutions caught in these abdominal acts in the area.
