Disunity, Internal Wrangling & Factions Have Affected NDC Chances To Win Lower West Akim Constituency Parliamentary Seat—John Dramani Mahama
Former President and flagbearer hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. John Dramani Mahama, has stated that he believes that the lack peace, internal wrangling, disunity and factions that erupted in the Lower West Akim constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NPP) in the year 2020 amongst party members led to the ruling New Patriotic Party's (NPP) victory over the NDC in the constituency.
"The NDC as a responsible political party, can easily win the Lower West Akim constituency parliamentary seat but all the times because of lack of unity, internal fight and factions amongst the members of the party that is why the NDC was not able to win the seat.
"So l am telling the supporters, executives and members of the NDC in the constituency to unite because the time is now ripe to win the seat for the NDC,"  former President Dramani Mahama advised the disgruntled members of the party.
He admonished members and supporters of the NDC in the area to forge ahead in unity in a bid to win the seat in the 2024 general elections.
He noted that it is unfortunate the NDC has lost the Lower West Akim Constituency seat to the NPP for the many years, but the time is now for the members and supporters of the party to show that they are ever ready to work hard to win the seat.
"However, this is the time to heal the wounds and iron out their differences to secure power but they can only do that with hard work and unity as a focal point.
“It is high time the NDC awakens and takes its rightful place…it is lack of unity that that is causing our downfall…going forward into 2024 we must be united and have a single purpose the seat will return to NDC. we must conduct ourselves well with unity as a focal point,” he further stressed.
Addressing about 1,206 delegates of Lower West Akim constituency at Asamankese on Thursday 13, 2023 as part of his tour to the Eastern Region, former President Dramani Mahama pointed out that there are documentary evidence which clearly shows that the NDC has the chance of winning the constituency parliamentary seat from incumbent NPP Member of Parliament in the 2024 polls.

The NDC presidential hopeful pointed out that this target can only be achieved if there are peaceful coexistence and unity within the rank and file of the party in the area, hence he called for united front to snatch the seat from the NPP.

Former President Dramani Mahama pointed out that there is a prudent that the candidate with superior ideals to advance the development and improve upon the living conditions of the people, wins the hearts of the delegates to lead NDC Lower West Akim parliamentary election, come 2024.

He told the delegates that in the date of the upcoming NDC primaries slated for Saturday May 13, 2023, the voting would be done in two folds.

He noted that the eligible voting delegates and members of the NDC would vote for the presidential candidates first before they would moved to cast another vote for parliamentary candidates in the same date.

The former president stressed the need for the delegates and members of the NDC in the area to abide by the laid down policies, procedures and guidelines regulating the upcoming presidential and parliamentary primaries in order to avoid rejecting voting.

"What l am saying was that if there are chances that the NDC can vote and provide all the three NDC parliamentary hopefuls of the Lower West Akim to represent the people in Parliament, it would be done easily...but the rules and regulations regulating the election stipulates that the constituency can choose only one person to represent its people in parliament.

"Following this development, the delegates of the NDC are going to vote and elect the parliamentary candidate to lead the NDC front in the Lower West Akim. And that after the delegates and members vote and elect this candidate, it is important that all the people who contested the primaries and lost to indeed encourage their supporters and sympathizers to bury their differences and join the winner of the race so that the NDC can win the Lower West Akim seat in the 2024 general elections," Former President Dramani Mahama advised.

He stressed that; "The Lower West Akim constituency parliamentary seat is the seat that the NDC must surely wrestle from the NPP. But sometimes because of the lack peace and unity within the members and supporters of the party in the area, the NDC found it extremely difficult to win the seat.

"However come 2024 general election, l have confident and strong belief that something strange or extraordinary is going to happen in the 2024 in Lower West Akim Constituency in favour of the NDC," he further emphasized.

Although there is a clear chance of the party to win the seat from the NPP in the 2024, former President Dramani Mahama was quick to repeat the call on executives, supporters and members of the NDC to work assiduously to ensure the victory of the NDC in the area, come 2024.

The NDC flagbearer hopeful pledged his commitment and readiness to provide the needed logistics, equipment, materials and tools to the Lower West Akim constituency executives and grassroots members to use for the smooth running of their campaign activities.
