Chris Smalling has departed Manchester United for AS Roma on a permanent deal.

The centre back cost the Italians £18.1million; £13.6m upfront plus £4.5m in add-ons. He revealed no interest in staying at Manchester United after his loan spell with the Serie A side ended.

Smalling adds up to the list of Red Devils players who have been shipped to Italy including Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young.

The 30-year old signed by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2010 made 323 appearances for the club, scoring 18 goals.

He won the Premier League title in his very first season, 2010/11, and again in 2012/13. He also claimed the FA Cup (2015/16), the League Cup (2016/17) and the UEFA Europa League (2016/17) during his time with us, and started in all three of the finals that led to those triumphs.
