The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has assured us that government is keen and proactive in finding immediate solutions to the recent acute shortage of fertilizers in the country.

According to him, the shortage is the result of the recent Russian-Ukraine crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic

Addressing the media in a stakeholders forum at. the Ministry, Dr. Afriyie Akoto reiterated the recent increase in demand for fertilizer products by farmers all over the country which had necessitated the .shortag

Dr. Akoto explained that though tho annual demand for fertilizers by farmers annually amounts to about 600,000 metric tons, since the outbreak of the panic and the Russian-Ukraine war, they have not been able to meet a quarter of the demand

He lamented this has restricted several progress and programs of the Ministry

The sector Minister, therefore, encouraged farmers s to resort to the production and usage of organic fertilizers in our system to supplement farming.


Meanwhile, some stakeholders at the forum also expressed enthusiasm to help in producing organic fertilizers to supplement the shortages

Speaking to the media after the forum, the Managing Director for the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACARP), Michael Padi Tuwor indicated their readiness to support the government to address issues.

He, therefore, appealed to other fertilizer producers to meet the standard of production to ensure quality products to avoid fake products on the market
