Bono: sim card re-registration sees mass congestion at centers, residents call for extension of deadline.

Some customers of the telecommunication networks operating in the country are calling on the government to extend the period for the SIM card re-registration exercise due to the delay as a result of mass congestion and system failure.

The Various re-registration centers of the telecommunication companies have witnessed long queues as customers are rushing to beat the deadline to link their Ghana cards to their SIM cards.

The exercise has become necessary because the government has set March 31, 2022, as the deadline for the re-registration.

This is to enable proper merging of the sim cards to the Ghana card as part of the government’s effort to digitize the country.

Some customers in the Bono Region who spoke to Soiree News Regional Correspondent Nana Ama Asiedu when she toured the various centers at a random interview  indicated that an extension would help ease the tensions at the various re-registration centers

They also complained about the time spent per heard as a result of the delayed system as also contributing to the congestion.

“A lot of people have just been rushing here, but I think if there are a lot of people who do the registration, it will help because they spend almost 45 minutes to one hour on one person,” one of the aggrieved customers said.

“Just look at the number of people who have massed making the exercise chaotic and unregulated. I think an extension will ease the tensions to enable everyone to get his SIM card registered,” another customer lamented.

Meanwhile, some also feel the process is even unnecessary because they gave out biometric information while registering for the Ghana Card.

Although the officials from the Telcos at the various registration centers failed to disclose what is amounting to the long queues, Soiree News observed that the system provided by Kelni GVG to facilitate the exercise has been faced with numerous challenges.
