The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Banda District Assembly, Mr Akoneh Emmanuel, has urged striking teachers to sympathize the stranded learners to return to the classrooms pending the outcome of ongoing negotiations about the Cost of Living Allowances (COLA).
As all teachers’ unions have declared a nationwide strike demanding a 20% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) because of high inflation, high fuel costs, and high prices for goods and services have eroded their salaries, the government have had negotiations to abate the intricate attitudes of the teachers.
Speaking on Tain FM Anopa Nkommo show in an exclusive interview, the DCE noted that the current situation in Ghana needs sacrificial efforts to curb the economic challenges, therefore pleading with the teacher Unions to be patient with the government on the cost of living allowances and return to the classroom to allow negotiations on their demands.
“I want to add my voice to appeal to the outstanding teachers to return to the classrooms pending the outcome of these negotiations so that the education of our children, some of whom are preparing to sit their final exams, is not affected,” he said.
Touching on the recent food crisis at senior high schools, Mr Akoneh reiterated that the internal matters that caused the challenges of food shortages must be addressed urgently to avoid closure of the senior high schools.
He further urged the aspirants and delegates on the NPP internal elections to have peaceful elections.
