MCE Warns SHSs in Tano South ---Against illegal collection of unapproved fees from Parents
A letter from the Tano South municipal assembly signed by the MCE, Honorable Collins Offinam Takyi indicates that his outfit has received a series of complaints from parents of SHS one student which denotes how some Senior High/Technical schools are charging unapproved fees, particularly PTA dues which according him is unacceptable and must be stopped with immediate effect.

The Tano South Municipal Assembly has taken notice of a collection of unapproved fees and dues from parents and has warned these schools to halt the illegal act or face full rigorous of the laws of the country.

Speaking to the MCE in an interview with High Radio's Morning show dubbed High Morning breeze hosted by Kwaku Mensah Abrampa, Mr Offinam Takyi explained that even though PTA is Parents Teachers Association that seeks to support the government in the development of every school but government through the Free Senior High/Technical school policy has taken care of all payments.
He said the government has scrapped the payment of every bit of fees or dues by parents
According to the MCE, he has sighted a bill of some SHS students that has PA (Parents Association) levy situated on it which are meant for developmental projects in the school.
He noted that all projects in all Senior High schools within the Tano South Municipal are being constructed by the government hence there is no need for form One students to be levied on government-sponsored projects.
He stressed that the PTA must create government awareness of their willingness to contribute financially to undertake any project in support for the respective schools of their wards to ensure the free senior meet it targets because the government has not authorized any school to take PTA dues.
He argued that it baffles him how the teachers and parents of form one students who are yet to go to school met to decide on an amount to be paid as PTA dues.
He explained that parents become a member of a PTA of a school when their ward attends that school hence any school with intention of charging PTA levies must ensure an open forum for stakeholders, teachers, and parents to ensure a successful discussion on an agreed levies to be charged.
