As I sentence you to death, may God have mercy on your soul _ Judge to spiritualist who murdered his wife and daughter in order to appease idols

Mbawona Tindana, a self-styled spiritualist, was sentenced to death by a presiding judge at the Bolgatanga High Court for killing his wife and daughter to appease his deities.

In his decision, Justice Charles Adjei Wilson begged for the perpetrator's forgiveness from God.

"As I sentence you to death, may the Almighty God and Allah pity your soul," he begged.

Mbawona Tindana, 35, was charged with two counts of theft. He, on the other hand, has entered a not guilty plea.

However, a seven-member jury that heard the case unanimously found him guilty.

Before the jury's final judgment, the presiding judge stated that under section 46 of the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960 (Act 29), an accused facing a murder charge faces the death penalty until it can be demonstrated otherwise.

Following that, on Wednesday, June 1, after narrating the stories of the case's witnesses as well as the accused's story to a packed courtroom, he ordered the jury to go to the chamber, deliberate, and return with their verdict.

"So, based on the jury's verdict, I sentence you to death and that you will be confined in the prison for the rest of your life, with the only way out being a presidential pardon," he stated when he returned.
