Beautiful Heart Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has supplied solar induction lamps to the alleged Kpatinga Witch camp in the Gushegu municipal of the Northern Region of Ghana. The inmates were also given some food items.

The alleged witches of 32 inmates at the camp expressed much gratitude towards the NGO for the charity.

“The solar lamps will help us at the night," they stated.

The 32 inmates of the Kpatinga Witch Camp appealed to the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Mrs. Cynthia Morrison last year at her visit to the camp that they needed electricity because they have been compelled to sleep in darkness due to the lack of electricity despite its being in existence for many years. They find it challenging to perform their house chores at night. Due to the lack of electricity, some of them are being bitten by snakes, scorpions, and reptiles.

The Chief Executive of Officer of Beautiful Heart Foundation Mrs. Selma Fidelia Korley said the foundation, however, found it necessary to supply them with lamps as a step to fix some of their numerous challenges.

She said the inmates have suffered stigmatization for far too long therefore the foundation saw it necessary to endow the alleged witches with the lights and some food items.

She added "we are in the month of love so we have to show love to everyone. Many people have the perception that people here don’t need doesn't need help however they’re humans like we so thought of given them lightly to help them in the night."

She however pledged to visit the camp and fetch them more alms

The Kpatinga witches camp inmates also face challenges such as lack of toilet facility, poor sustainable source of livelihood, bad roads to the main community, lack of Personal protective equipment (PPE) to help prevent inmates from covid-19 among others.

As a result, they have called on the government of Ghana for assistance.
