The Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu has criticized the e-levy tax announced in the 2022 budget by Finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta. In his delivery in Parliament on Wednesday, Mr. Ofori-Atta specified that government has decided to place a levy on all electronic transactions to widen the tax net and rope in the informal sector.

He added that the levy, which is supposed to take effect next year January following Parliament’s approval of the budget, will be used to support entrepreneurship, and ensure youth employment.

However, the minority leader in parliament has described this levy as a burden on Ghanaians. He says “this budget does not end any suffering; you will be credited in the Guinness book of record for borrowing more than any other minister under the Fourth republic”.

Haruna Iddrisu spoke after the presentation and commented that “When you project revenue from 53 billion to 80 Billon within one year, the market has listened to you, Ghanaians have listened to you”.
