Yendi Constitutes Priority is Water, Not Bags of Sugar - Journalist Advise
Mr Mohammed Fugu

A Tamale based freelance Journalist, Mr Mohammed Fugu has called on Politicians in the North to consider human interest interventions instead of the annual distribution of Sugar during the month of Ramadan.

In a Facebook post following the donation of 1,000 bags of Sugar by the Member of Parliament for the Yendi Constituency, Alhaji Aliu Farouk Mahama, Mr Fugu wondered why the plight of the good people of Yendi is being ignored, only for the grieving constituents to be presented with bags of Sugar.

According to him, the Yendi Constituency is facing a severe water crisis, which took the overlord of Dagbon to make a passionate appeal for water on several occasions.

Mr Fugu estimated that the 1000 bags of sugar donated by the MP amounts to about GHC200,000, which he believes could help in providing water to the people of Yendi.

"I think what the people of Yendi need now especially in the month of Ramadan is water not bags of sugar". He said.

The donation of Sugar to Muslim communities by political figures during the month of Ramadan has become a norm in the Region.

Sadly, with all the challenges confronting Muslim inhabitants in the Northern Region, the interest area for these politicians is Sugar distribution without milk nor a pack of tea.
