Contractors Defraud Saga: My Hands  Are Clean Nsawam-Adoagyiri MCE Fires Back At Critics
Honourable Isaac Kwadjo Buabeng

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, Mr Isaac Kwadjo Buabeng has stated categorically that his hands are clean following the practices of defrauding some twenty-six (26) contractors using the name of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman, Mr Freddie Blay as being reported by the New Crusading Guide in its Monday, April 26, 2021 edition.

In a screaming headline dubbed" Nsawam MCE In Contract Scam... Defrauds 26 Contractors Using NPP Chairman Name," New Crusading Guide reported that the MCE, one Nana Agyemang, popularly known as Maroneand and Davies Kwashie Adatey who works at the Assembly allegedly took huge sums of money from their victims in 2019 with the claims of giving them contracts.

The paper report noted that the MCE and followers allegedly told the contractors that the amount taken will be given to Mr Freddie Blay who will order the contracts to be awarded to them.

The report indicated that it was later revealed that the MCE and his accomplices were awarding one contract to higher bidders and squandered the monies instead of refunding them to their victims.

The deceitful behaviour of the three infuriated the contractors who have filed a report at the CID headquarters in Accra but in a quick response, the MCE has denied his involvement in the reported contract scam of the Assembly.

He noted that he finds it extremely wrong for the New Crusading Guide to link his name to those who were involved in defrauding the contractors since "my hands are clean."

Mr Buabeng mentioned that the Head of Business Advisory in Nsawam -Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly, Mr Kwashie  Davies Adamtey who had used he (Isaac Kwadjo Buabeng) and Mr Blay name to defraud the contractors and he was not involved in the deal.

Setting the records straight, the MCE noted that when the contractors had informed his outfit about the issue, he was on June 2, 2020, queried by Mr Adamtey about this matter and asked to explain why the disciplinary actions were taken against him.

The query letter by the MCE to Mr Kwashie  Davies Adamtey read in part; "The Municipal Chief Executive attention has been drawn to the fact that you are using your position as Head of Business Advisory Center at the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly to award the various contract at the National level."

The letter pointed out that Mr Adamtey went ahead to take various sums of money from such individuals contractors which development has led the MCE name to disrepute.

"You are to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against you, since your conduct is against the public code of conduct for employees.

However, Mr Kwashie Davies Adamtey in a response to the MCE's query which reads in part " The New Patriotic Party people came to me to facilitate their procurement of contract to indeed true. Given my political prowess and my links to ministers and the leadership of the New Patriotic Party."

The letter added that "I did collate the list of contractors to the office of Nana Akwasi Agyemang- Marrinoni of the infrastructure logistics at Cantonment in Accra."

He said the project is meant for the party loyalist.

"I am to bring along their profile and an amount of GH¢ 20, 000.00 as part payment their 10%to be paid if the awarded letters come.

"Before the payment of the money to Nana Agyemang office, my due diligence revealed that Nana Agyemang is a close pal to the National Chairman of the NPP."

The letter noted that "I have arranged several meetings involving contractors, Nana Agyemang and Madam Cecilia Akurter of infrastructure logistics to ensure transparency.'
