What are the evacuation routes out of Sudan?

People are trying to escape the violence in Sudan in a variety of ways, most of which are exceedingly difficult and lengthy.

They include risky flights from tumultuous Khartoum itself to neighboring nations, flying east to the Red Sea coast city of Port Sudan, or driving north through neighboring Egypt.

UK evacuation announced but practicalities unclear

The UK government has come under pressure to declare an evacuation for British nationals living in Sudan, and we now have the first information this morning.

Military flights will depart from an airport outside of Khartoum. Those who are qualified are asked not to travel to the airfield until they are instructed to do so since people will be notified in order of priority.

The details of the practicalities are still unknown.

Although a ceasefire has been declared, the Foreign Office has issued a warning that the situation is still unstable and that their evacuation plans could alter.

Other solutions, possibly from Port Sudan, are still being thought upon.

HMS Lancaster, which is based in the gulf, may be used for additional evacuations.
