Zelensky renews his bid to speak at the AU conference.

According to AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made a new request to address African Union (AU) heads of state.

Mr. Faki said he got the request during a phone chat with Ukraine's foreign minister, according to a tweet.

President Zelensky's "desire to forge deeper connections with the AU" was also discussed by the two.

Mr... Faki did not say whether his request would be granted, but he did say that he had "insisted on a peaceful settlement to the crisis with Russia" in a tweet.

President Zelensky called his Senegalese colleague Macky Sall, the current AU chairperson, earlier this month and sought to speak to African leaders.

African nations led the list of countries that voted no on a UN resolution suspending Russia from the UN Human Rights Council.
