Wenchi : Wangara community celebrates kurubi festival

The Kurumi festival is celebrated by the Muslims from Wenchi, Kintampo, and Sampa in recognition of the blessings in the day Laylatul Qadr assemble virgins to sing and dance in appreciation of the monumental benefits and glory bestowed on them by Allah.

Wenchi : Wangara community celebrates kurubi festival

The Wangara community at Wenchi in the Bono Region has celebrated its annual Kurubi festival.

The kurubi festival originated from the Ghana empire, the festival is celebrated to commemorate the 27th day of Ramadan,    Laylatul Qadr by assembling virgins on a platform.

It is believed that a female child who is not a virgin may fall on the stage or the stage may collapse.

The exact date of Laylatul Qadr is unknown, although it is thought to occur on an odd night in the last ten days of Ramadan example the 21st,23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th night of Ramadan.

According to history the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, seek it in the last ten days on the odd nights.

The kurubi festival is celebrated by the Muslims from Wenchi, Kintanpo, and Sampa in recognition of the blessings in the day Laylatul Qadr assembles virgins to sing and dance in appreciation of the monumental benefits and glory bestowed on them by Allah.

The kurubi festival also helps to prevent teenage girls in the Wangara community from teenage pregnancies.

Meanwhile, the Banda Heritage at Wenchi has set 19th to 22nd May 2022 to celebrate the national Banda kurubi festival.
