Wassa Saamang Residents Slam MTN Over Poor Network
They complained that the old MTN's network poles mounted at various vantage points in the Wassa Saamang community were sufficient to meet the demand of the huge population of MTN subscribers in the area."
Aggrieved residents at Saamang, a farming community in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region Residents have launched a scathing attack on Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN), describing the company as completely useless.

They complained that the old MTN's network poles mounted at various vantage points in the Wassa Saamang community were sufficient to meet the demand of the huge population of MTN subscribers in the area.

The residents could not fathom why the telecommunications giant has woefully failed to fix their persistent poor network coverage, despite having reported the issue on several occasions.
They described this lack of stable connectivity as the biggest challenge currently confronting their community, which has a population of over 5,426 people who predominantly use the MTN telecommunication service.
In an interview with Africa TODAY NEWS, the Assembly Member for the Saamang Electoral Area in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipal Assembly Hon. Boafo Yaw Isaac also shared this sentiment, identifying poor telecommunications network coverage as the main issue facing residents.
He expressed frustration over the poor MTN network, stating that they have officially reported the challenges to the company's management, but nothing has been done to fix it.
He pointed out that the poor network services provided to MTN subscribers are adversely affecting educational activities, as well as the businesses of traders, nursing students, and healthcare workers in the area.
According to him, sometime last year and this year, the company's engineers conducted site inspections to mount another cell tower. However, after the inspections, they never heard back from them.
"If we follow up on the matter, MTN tells us that fixing the challenge depends on budget allocation, and the company keeps tossing us around," he complained bitterly.
"The worsening MTN network problem has affected residents to the extent that we are forced to use WiFi services just to make and receive calls," he added.
According to Hon. Boafo, the unreliable network service continues to affect communication, business activities, education, healthcare delivery, and emergency response, making it difficult for residents to stay connected and access essential digital services.
He called on the National Communications Authority (NCA) to compel MTN to take a second look at the network services provided to the people of the Wassa Shaman area, as residents are suffering from poor service delivery
The Assembly Member also appealed for the rehabilitation of the area’s poor road network, noting that improved roads would enhance transportation, boost economic activities, and make it easier for residents to access schools, markets, and healthcare facilities.
The Assembly Member further called for the construction and equipping of a modern health clinic to improve access to quality healthcare, as well as the provision of teachers’ quarters to attract and retain qualified teachers in the community.
Hon. Boafo also urged the government to expand the School Feeding Programme to benefit more pupils, describing it as an important initiative that supports school enrolment, attendance, and children’s well-being.
He appealed for additional development projects, including improved water supply, electricity expansion, educational infrastructure, youth empowerment programmes, and agricultural support, to accelerate the socio-economic development of the Wassa Saamang Electoral Area.
Hon. Isaac Boafo reaffirmed his commitment to working with all stakeholders to address the developmental challenges facing the community and improve the quality of life for residents.
