Liverpool is planning to make Virgil van Dijk the highest-paid player in the history of the club.

The world’s Best center back will receive a new £220,000-a-week deal, which is worth £57m and will be contacted once the Premier League trophy has been secured, reported by the Sun.

He is currently on a £180,000 per week salary and the new deal would take Van Dijk above Mo Salah as the highest-earning Liverpool player, who is on a £200,000 a week at Liverpool.

The Dutch captain has been phenomenal since his £75 million moves from Southampton in 2018 making him the world’s most expensive defender then. His command at the Liverpool defense has seen the Reds overcome shielding fragilities suffered years ago.

His arrival has contributed to Liverpool winning the Champions League, Super Cup, and Club World Cup. The Reds missed out last year’s Premier League by a point, breaking the record for 'most points in a season without winning the league’, which was previously 89 points from Manchester United’s 2011-12 season.

Liverpool is 25 points away on top of the current season halted by the league season and needs a win on two games to celebrate their first Premier League title in over three decades.

The 28-year-old has been loosely linked to Paris Saint Germain yet his dedication to the Reds means he still has unfinished business at Anfield and will prefer to ply his trade in front of the flamboyant kop.

“I want to achieve incredible things here,” he told Sport when asked how he would like to be remembered when the time comes for him to retire.
