A seven-day ceasefire beginning on Thursday has been agreed upon by the opposing military factions in Sudan.

Following weeks of fighting, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has arrived in Kenya to monitor the humanitarian and security situation in Sudan.

Alfred Mutua, Kenya's minister of foreign affairs, welcomed Mr. Guterres on Wednesday morning at the primary airport in the nation's capital, Nairobi.

The UN chief will meet with the leaders of all UN agencies in Nairobi during his two-day visit, in addition to speaking with President William Ruto.
