Over 100 killed in Rwanda floods and landslides

Over 100 people have now died in Rwanda as a result of landslides and floods as a result of the nation's heavy rains, according to the authorities.

According to the official broadcaster in Rwanda, RBA, 109 people have already passed away, with 95 of them occurring in the western province and 14 in the northern province.

At least 50 people had killed, according to the governor of the country's western province, who had told the BBC that the region had experienced "all night" of severe rains.

The governor, François Habitegeko, stated that "many houses collapsed on people, the provisional number of those who have died is now 55, and [there are] many injured."

He claimed that landslides have rendered the province's key routes, including the brand-new road that snakes along Lake Kivu, "unusable."

The number of victims was expected to rise, he added, adding that rescue efforts were being made in isolated locations.
