U/E: Don’t be quick to call for Regional Minister's removal, allow him to work – Tong Rana appeals to residents

Almost all regional Ministers since 2009 were either booted out of office or given other jobs as a result of protest against them by residents in the Upper East Region.

Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional area, Tongraan Naab Kubilsong Nalebetang has appealed to residents of the Upper East Region to allow the new Regional Minister to stay in office and execute his plans for the region and not start demanding for his dismissal.

The Tongraan, who is a former Member of Parliament for the Talensi Constituency, said residents of the Upper East Region have gained notoriety for always demanding for their Regional Ministers’ removal immediately after he assumed office.

This, he asserted, does not promote the development of the region as almost all ministers are whisked out of office before they could even properly settle down and execute their policy ideas for the progress of the region.

He has, therefore, called on residents of the region to, instead, lend their support to the current Regional Minister, Stephen Mahamudu Yakubu and resist any temptation to call for his head.

“I will like to appeal to our people to allow you (Regional Minister) to work because we are a region noted for always calling for the removal of Regional Ministers whether it is NDC or NPP. Every time, our regional Minister must be removed midway into his term. I will like to appeal to people to exercise some bit of restraint and ensure that we rather work with the minister so that development can come to this region,” he said.

The Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional area made the appeal when the Minister paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Tongo to inform him of his assumption of office as the administrative head of the region.

In his welcome address to the Minister and his entourage, the traditional ruler expressed concern about the rising insecurity in the region as a result of criminal activities particularly armed robbery and urged the Minister and the security agencies to put in place combative measures to prevent armed robbery and other crimes endangering the security of the region as well as arrest and prosecute persons involved in criminal activities.

Stephen Mahamudu Yakubu was appointed by President Akufo-Addo in the formation of his government for a 2nd tenure in office replacing Madam Tangoba Abayage who stirred the affairs of the region from 2018 till 2021.

Residents of the Upper East Region for some time now appear very impatient with their regional ministers as they have always found a fault in almost all ministers appointed to head the region to demand their removal.

Except in the case of Madam Tangoba Abayage, almost all regional ministers since 2009 were either booted out of office or given other jobs as a result of protest against them by residents.

A section of the residents has raised concerns about the trend saying that it impedes the region’s progress
