Tuobodom District Court orders landlords to pull down their buildings
Demolishing exercise

The Tuobodom District Court last Monday, 5th July 2021 presided over by His Lordship Anthony Ansah has ordered seven Landlords in Techiman to pull down their houses.

It is believed that these buildings have turned into death-trap which now threatens lives and other properties in the neighbourhood.

His Lordship Anthony Ansah ordered the Landlords to demolish their structures within the next 10 days to prevent any unforeseen disasters or face the contempt of the court.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO)  Directorate in the Techiman South Municipality, summoned a total of nine Landlords to the Tuobodom District Court praying for the Court to order the demolishing of the houses.

Mr Eric Aseidu, the NADMO Director for Techiman South,  said it's not the intention of his outfit to deprive these Landlords of their houses but the nature of the houses and overall safety of the good people of Techiman has made it so.

According to him, these structures are very weak and may soon collapse meanwhile people are renting them. He said his outfit has already petitioned owners of such houses both verbally and written warnings to do the needful and demolished the houses for the safety of the public but such warnings have fallen on deaf ears.

Mr Eric Aseidu revealed that, out of the nine landlords, seven were present during the hearing, five revealed that they have already pulled down and their houses while two prayed to the court to give time to carry out the demolishing exercise.

"So the court gave them 10 days to demolished their houses and orders us to report the outcome to court on the 16th of this month," Mr Aseidu said.

The court ordered the other two Landlords that failed to show up in the sitting to pull down their houses within the next one month or risked facing contempt of the court.
